Abstract

Delirium is an acute brain dysfunction that results in increased mortality and hospitalization time, as well as post-discharge cognitive impairment. This syndrome can be prevented, so this article aims to update surgeons on the key features of delirium, mainly in terms of estimating the patient’s susceptibility to develop postoperative delirium through the recognition of risk factors.
