Abstract

Objective: To describe the surgical treatment performed for colon cancer at the Military Hospital during the period from February 2017 to February 2019. Material and methods: 144 patients who underwent surgery in the General Surgery Service at the Military Hospital are retrospectively evaluated. Results: A total of 144 (n) patients with a diagnosis of colon cancer were obtained during the period between February 2017 and February 2019, which constitute the sample of this study. According to the distribution of patients according to age, they are more frequent in the range of 61 to 70 years, which corresponds to 45.13% (65 patients), followed by the range of 51-60 years which corresponds to 25 % (36 patients). The minimum age was 21 years and the maximum was 87 years with an average age of 60.5 years. Conclusion: There is a predominance of adult patients aged 61 to 70 years and a higher percentage in males 43%. The most frequent location was in the sigmoid colon in 50%. The histological type mostly corresponds to adenocarcinoma in 93%.
